For years I have worked from home as a remote customer service agent for different clients and then this past May, after going on a nice vacation, I returned home to find an email saying that the company I contract with was terminating our relationship because they were "no longer able to verify my identity nor my location". Having been removed from their platform, I had no means of contacting them back to get more information so I just went out and got the fastest job I could find which was a total bullshit piece of garbage job working for the USPS. I wont get into it but I hated the job pretty much from the day I arrived at the facility. But they put me on a little training route and my first stop on this route was this little retirement home. The moment I walked into the retirement home, I felt like I was.... I don't know... in a good place. Hard to explain the sensation except to say, I enjoyed going there each day that I worked.
Anyway, I am doing the USPS job and then suddenly I get an email from my old job, telling me that my account had been fully restored. So now I am working online from home again and also for USPS. So I was thinking I was going to quit the post office at some point. Then one day while I was dropping off the mail at the retirement home, the director of the place approached me and wanted to know if I could leave the cluster of mailboxes unlocked and I informed her that I could not. I advised her to contact the postmaster but that I would no longer be working for the post office after that day because I was putting in my resignation. She then told me that they were hiring for their dietary department. And I said, "I'll take it." without hearing anything more. Working at the retirement home for the past three months has been awesome. I have enjoyed it more than any job I think I have ever done. I love the residents and the jobs is perfect for me. It is a very simple job that gets me the much needed exercise that I do not get enough of. And the interactions with the residents are life-changing. It is really just one of those rare times in life where the stars align and things seem to just be meant to be.
I work 3 ten hour shifts a week for them and this is considered full time and then during the other four days of the week, I do the work-from-home job. It has been working out great and then we got bought out by a "senior living" company and they announced a few days ago, after all the residents had just finished putting up their Christmas trees in their individual apartments, that our residents (most of whom are aged 90+) are being evicted and should try to be moved out by January 2nd, 2026 (30 Days). And just for context, where I live in south western Indiana, USA, there is snow and ice on the ground right now. We are in the middle of winter. In addition to this, the doors of the place are closing and the staff is all being let go. I will leave off any of the identifying details of the company who is doing this, but might discuss that in detail someday down the road. Not sure yet.
Upon hearing this, I thought that I might try to find a similar job since I like this job so much. But after having a few days to reflect, I have decided that will just go back to exclusively working from home for a while. There is no need to jump right back into something. I could use a little more money than what I make but I will try and figure it out.
I am starting this blog as a way to showcase and document all of the many ways I keep myself occupied at home; I also have recently decided that I want to try to go back and learn all the things I should have learned when I was young but was too preoccupied to pay attention in school (so we are mainly talking math and science but it could also venture over into history lessons and language arts at times). I also have been developing an interest in robotics, if you can believe that. Also, I like crafting miniatures, jewelry and paintings and pretty much all kinds of creafting and learning to sew. So really, you never know what I might be sharing on any given day. No idea how frequent my posts will be, but I would say at least weekly.
